Maple bug exterminator

Control and Treatment Service

Do you notice small black insects with orange-red stripes gathering by the hundreds on the walls of your house? These are maple stink bugs (also called maple leaf bugs). As soon as autumn approaches and temperatures drop, these insects seek warmth and try to enter buildings to overwinter.
Although they don’t bite or damage structures, their presence in large numbers is very unpleasant and they can leave stains on your surfaces. Rive-Nord Extermination offers an exterior barrier spraying service to stop the infestation at its source.

What is the maple bug and how can you identify it?
To determine if you have a maple bug infestation, here are some easy signs to look for:
Physical appearance: The adult insect is about 1.2 cm long. It is dark black or charcoal gray, with very visible red or orange stripes on its back and behind its head.
  • Group behavior: This is a gregarious insect, meaning it lives in groups. You will almost never see a maple bug alone; they congregate in groups of dozens or even hundreds in the same area.
  • Odor: If you crush a bug, or if they feel threatened, they emit a strong, foul odor. In addition, their body fluid can leave orange stains that are difficult to remove from curtains or light-colored upholstery.
Why are maple bugs invading your property?
To understand how to eliminate maple stink bugs, you need to know what attracts them:
  • The presence of host trees: During the summer, these insects live and feed in trees, primarily maples (such as the black maple or silver maple). If you have these trees on your property or in your neighborhood, the risk of infestation is higher.
  • The effect of sunlight on your walls: Stink bugs love the heat. They instinctively congregate on the sides of the house that receive the most sun during the afternoon (often on brick or dark siding).
  • The search for winter shelter: They are not looking to eat your food or plants. They simply want to find a small crevice around a window, under the soffits, or in the attic to hibernate in warmth until spring.
Our treatment to eliminate and block maple bugs
To solve the problem long-term, simply squashing the insects isn’t enough, as more will keep coming back. Our team uses a logical and effective method:
  • Access point inspection: We walk around your property to identify where maple bugs congregate and locate any gaps or cracks through which they try to infiltrate.
  • Exterior barrier spraying: Our technicians apply a professional, long-lasting product all around the house (foundation, door and window frames). This product creates an invisible barrier: the insects can no longer move across your walls.
  • Interior treatment: If bugs have already managed to enter your living spaces, we use safe, localized solutions to clean the area.
